When you define categories for your entries, visitors can quickly filter your journal content by what interests them. In addition, Squarespace categories are the equivalent of Technorati Tags, allowing people across the Web to easily find your categorized content when it matches the tag they search for.

Step 1 - Access Your Administration Area

Step 2 - Navigate to Structure & Style > Architecture

Step 3 - Click the 'categories' link in your Journal options

Step 4 - Add, Edit, or Remove Categories

Optional - Add and Assign Categories

You can also add and assign categories from within the editor while composing or modifying a Journal entry.
