What is a Trackback ping?

A trackback ping is a method for establishing a link between two sites. For example, if you write a blog post, and someone else on the web writes about that post, they can send a trackback ping to your post and create a link between the entries.

What is a podcast?

A podcast is a downloadable audio file associated with a blog entry. These audio files are meant to be downloaded by visitors and ported around on portable music devices or listened to directly from the computer. Podcasts are also embedded in your blog's RSS feed and can be read separately by special news feed readers that can read and play podcasts.

Do you have a form builder component so I can collect data from my visitors?

Yes. The Squarespace form builder component is available to all business level accounts. You can add this to your site using the guide for adding a page here, and choosing the form page from the list. After adding your page, you can add fields to create a custom form -- your data will be stored in an Excel spreadsheet in your File Storage.

Note: It is not possible to add this feature to your plan 'a la carte,' you would need the Business plan or higher.

Do you have a Calendar object so that I can list upcoming events?

Not yet! We currently do not have a Calendar object but it is in development and will be announced in the future. In the interim, you can use a third party service for this, such as Google Calendar, which provides the HTML code to embed a calendar into your page. More information about that is available here.

You can add this to any page of your site that's configured to accept code -- in the WYSIWYG editor click the "cog" icon and add your calendar code.

What is a 'Reference' within a Squarespace blog post?

Squarespace provides a system for creating citations on blog posts -- and we call these citations 'references'. References can be used to cite sources for a blog post, and we incorporate the notion of a Trackback (see above) into our references feature in order to let other bloggers add to your post if they write about something you've published. This allows for a system that links sources, associated articles, and future content within one area.

Someone (or a robot) added a spam reference to my blog. How do I remove it?

You can remove references one of two ways.

  1. By clicking 'modify entry' on your Journal entry and navigating to the references tab. From there, you can select which references you would like to keep or remove.
  2. By navigating to [Dashboard > Manage Comments] within your site manager. This area of your manager gives you an overview of all commenting activity on your site, and lets you report spam and remove references you object to. Click the select link for the reference -- in the options that appear at the top of the page, click to 'remove' to delete an unwanted reference, or to 'remove and report as spam' to remove spam references
